Black Spandex Shorts You will need 2 pairs of mid-thigh spandex shorts (w/o padding) to wear under your

those items needed to learn their show, such as a pencil, coordinate sheet, breathing tube, etc.
Music LyreLyre holds the flip folder and can be purchased at a local music store. Be sure to take your instrument when purchasing. (Not needed for percussion).

OTHER FEES TO EXPECT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Region and All-State BandAll students in the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds will be required to audition for the AMEA Region Band. The audition fee is $25 per instrument. Should the student make the Region Band, they will be required to pay an additional $25 participation fee. If the student auditions for the next round called All-State, another $25 will be due for the audition fee. These fees are due in the months of January, February and March.
Piano Accompanist FeeStudents that play a woodwind or brass instrument taking a solo to the AMEA Solo &
Ensemble Festival will be required to hire a piano accompanist. This fee could range anywhere between $50-$100. The fee will include rehearsals and the performance. This fee is typically due in the month of January directly to their accompanist. If a student advances to Tier 2 in February, they can expect to pay a similar fee for Tier 2.
Private LessonsStudents are encouraged to take private lessons from a professional on their instrument. The private lesson fee is established by each lesson teacher and can range anywhere between $30-$60 per hour. Additional costs could include homemade reeds for oboe and bassoons, with each reed costing $20.00-25.00 per reed. Do not purchase oboe and bassoon reeds from a music store, unless they are custom made.
Concert AttireAll SDOHS band students are required to wear “Concert Black” for all concert festivals and performances.
Ladies are required to wear a floor length black dress with a modest neckline. Past students have either found their dresses on Amazon or a department store.
Men are required to wear black slacks, black shoes, black socks, black belt, and a collared button down, long sleeve shirt. The first concert of the year for Wind Ensemble will be in October, while all others will take place in December.
Spring TripEach year the SDOHS Band & Orchestra will take a trip during the spring semester. The trip will alternate each year between a “Local Trip” to a “Big Trip”. Once the trips are approved by administration, the director will email out a fee schedule for all participating students. The Spring Trip is optional for students. The price will be reasonable so all students can participate.
